Glenfiddich Reserve Cask
Glenfiddich Reserve Cask is a single malt scotch whisky with ABV 40%. The spirit they mature is in a unique spanish sherry cask which gives the whisky a rich and smooth flavour. Brian Kinsman, the person responsible for their malts hand selects each cask for its flavour profile.
Glenfiddich uses the traditional method of blending the maturing the sherry known as Solera Vat, in fact Glenfiddich is best known name for producing single malts using the solera vat method. The sherry casks release the layers of vanilla, deep rich fruits and subtle oaky tannins which allows the flavours to meld together and produce a superior quality single malt scotch whisky.
Solera Vat
Solera Vat is the process that was inspired by the sherry makers of Spain and developed by the fifth malt master of Glenfiddich i.e David Stewart. In the process, each cask is individually hand picked as per their flavours before using them in the process. Thus producing a superior quality of single malt scotch whisky with rich flavours. In the process, so as to ensure the balance and consistency of flavours, the vat is always kept half filled.
Tasting Notes
This superior quality scotch whisky is of dark golden color, walnut color. It has a bold and vibrant essence with plenty of spice and oak. One can relate the aroma with antique leather and parchment. This delectable single malt scotch whisky is very smooth to consume straight. The sweet flavours of the spirit melded with the spanish oak spicy flavour gives a long lasting lively sweet, complex and enchanting flavour that evolves even more when poured in glass.
